ADSL ISP Settings
The ADSL ISP Settings Page allows you to set up your Internet connection(s).
You can use the Auto Detect button at the bottom of the page if you do not know the type of connection provided by your ISP. Auto Detect attempts to automatically detect your connection type by probing for different connection methods and suggesting one that your ISP may most likely support.
If you know your ISP connection type, you can bypass the Auto Detect feature and manually configure the router.
Ensure that you have the connection information relevant to your connection type before you begin; for example: IP Addresses, account information, etc. This information is usually provided by your ISP or network administrator.
ISP Log In
Does your Internet connection require a login?
Select this option based on the type of account you have with your ISP. If you need to enter login information every time you connect to the Internet, check the Yes radio box; otherwise, select No.
If your connection type is one of PPPoE or PPPOA Cable, then you need to login. Choose Yes and type in the User Name and Password in their respective fields. If your ISP has not assigned any login information, then choose No and skip the ISP Type section.
ISP Type
If you have a PPPoE or a PPPoA based ADSL link, then you will need to set the following parameters:
v Account Name : Valid account name for the PPPoE/PPPoA connection.
v Domain Name: Name of your ISPs domain or your domain name if your ISP has assigned one. This field is optional.
v Idle Timeout: Select Keep Connected, to Keep the Connection Always On. To logout after the connection is idle for a period of time, select Idle Time and enter the number of minutes to wait before disconnecting in the Timeout field. This is useful if your ISP charges you based on the amount of time you have logged in.
Internet (IP) Address
If your ISP has assigned a fixed (static or permanent) IP address or uses IP over ATM (IPoA), select Use static IP address or Use IP Over ATM (IPOA) respectively, and fill in the following fields:
v IP Address: Static IP address assigned to you. This will identify the router to your ISP.
v Subnet Mask: IPv4 Subnet Mask. This is usually provided by the ISP or your network administrator.
v Gateway IP Address: IP address of the ISP’s gateway. This is usually provided by the ISP or your network administrator.
v Select Get dynamically from ISP if you have not been assigned any static IP address. The ISP will automatically assign an IP address to the router using DHCP network protocol.
Domain Name Servers (DNS)
Domain name servers (DNS) convert Internet names such as www.google.com, www.netgear.com, etc. to Internet addresses called IP addresses.
Select Get dynamically from ISP checkbox if you have not been assigned a static DNS IP address.
If Use these DNS Servers is selected, ensure that you fill in valid DNS server IP addresses in the fields.
Click Apply to save the settings.
Click Reset to discard any changes and revert to the previous settings.
Click Test to connect to the NETGEAR Web site. If the NETGEAR site opens successfully then the configured settings are working. Click Logout to exit the web management interface.
Click Auto Detect to have the router probe for different connection methods and suggest one that your ISP may most likely support.
If the router is unable to connect,
v Open the Monitoring page and ensure that the settings for the WAN port are the same as the ones provided by your ISP.
v Check with your ISP to see if the settings are correct and up-to-date.
v Read the Troubleshooting section in the Device Installation Guide.
v Read the Troubleshooting chapter in the Reference Manual. This manual is available online. A link to the Reference Manual is on the Resource CD.
v Contact NETGEAR Technical Support.
