Firmware Update Instructions:

To update your product’s firmware, follow the instructions in your product’s user manual. To find your user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/, enter your model number in the search box, and click the Documentation button on the product page.

The following sections also describe how you can update the firmware.

Manually Update Firmware after Initial Setup:

  1. Download the latest WAX220 V1.0.x.yy firmware file from the NETGEAR support site (https://www.netgear.com/support/).
  2. Launch a web browser from a computer or tablet that is directly connected over WiFi.
  3. Enter the IP address that is assigned to the AP.
    If you are directly connected to the management WiFi network, you can enter https://www.aplogin.net. Otherwise, enter https://<IP-address-of-AP>.
    A login page displays.
    Note: If the IP address of the AP is its 192.168.0.100 default address, enter https://192.168.0.100.
    If your browser displays a security warning, you can proceed, or add an exception for the security warning. For more information, see https://kb.netgear.com/000062980.
  4. Enter the AP login password and click the LOGIN button.
    The AP login password is the one that you specified the first time you logged in to the AP. The password is case-sensitive.
    The Dashboard page displays.
  5. Select Management > System Manager > Firmware.


     
  6. Locate and select the firmware file on your computer by doing the following:
    1. In the Firmware Upgrade section, click the Choose File button.
    2. Navigate to the firmware file.
      The file name ends in .img.
    3. Select the firmware file.
  7. Click the Upload button.
    A pop-up window displays.
  8. Click the Proceed button.
    The page displays the update progress. The update takes about 3 minutes.

    WARNING: To avoid the risk of corrupting the firmware, do not interrupt the update.
    For example, do not close the browser, click a link, or load a new page. Do not turn off the AP. Wait until the AP finishes.
  9. When the update is finished, log back into the AP.
    The firmware version displays on the Dashboard page.

Let the AP Automatically Update the Firmware after Initial Setup

  4. Select Management > System Manager > Firmware.


     
  5. Click the Check for New Firmware button.
    The AP finds new firmware information. If any is available, the Firmware Upgrade Assistant page displays, showing a message asking if you want to update the firmware.
  6. Click the Yes button.
    The AP locates and downloads the firmware and begins the update. The page displays the update progress. The update takes about 3 minutes.
    WARNING: To avoid the risk of corrupting the firmware, do not interrupt the update.
    For example, do not close the browser, click a link, or load a new page. Do not turn off the AP. Wait until the AP finishes.
    When the update is finished, you can log back into the AP. After you log in, the firmware version displays on the Dashboard page.

Let the AP Automatically Update the Firmware when the AP Detects a New Version:

  1. Launch a web browser from a computer or tablet that is directly connected over WiFi.
  2. Enter the IP address that is assigned to the AP.
    If you are directly connected to the management WiFi network, you can enter https://www.aplogin.net. Otherwise, enter https://<IP-address-of-AP>.
    A login page displays.
    Note: If the IP address of the AP is its 192.168.0.100 default address, enter https://192.168.0.100.

  3. Enter the AP login password and click the LOGIN button.

  4. Click the banner message A new firmware upgrade is available. Click here to get it.
    The Firmware Upgrade Assistant page displays.
  5. Click the Yes button.
