Warnings:

Read and follow these warnings before updating your firmware: 

• The procedure to update the firmware differs depending on the current firmware version running on your GSS116E. You also may be prompted to update the boot loader. Failure to follow the correct procedure can cause the switch to become inoperable.     

Firmware Update Instructions:

Choose the procedure for the firmware version and boot loader version currently installed on the switch. 

To use the ProSAFE Plus Utility: 

1. If your version is older than v2.7.2., download and install the latest ProSAFE Plus Utility from http://www.netgear.com/support/product/PCU   
2. Cable your computer with the Plus Utility directly to the GSS116E. 

If your GSS116E firmware version is V1.0.0.0:

You can use the ProSAFE Plus Utility to update to the new firmware version V1.6.1.4. Follow these steps: 

1. Use the ProSAFE Plus Utility to update the switch to version V1.6.1.4.
2. After completing the firmware update, open a web browser and log in to the GSS116E.   
3. The device UI prompts you to update the boot loader.  
4. You must update the boot loader to version V1.0.0.5.  

If your GSS116E firmware version is V1.0.0.0, and you cannot use the ProSAFE Plus Utility: 

Follow these steps: 

• Remove all Ethernet cables from the GSS116E except for the cable connected to the PC that you want to use to perform the firmware update.  
• Open a web browser and update the firmware to V1.0.0.2.  
• Once the device is updated to V1.0.0.2., proceed to the instructions for updating from this firmware version. 

If your GSS116E firmware version is V1.0.0.2:

1. Open a web browser and log in to your GSS116E to check the loader v

• If the loader version is V1.0.0.0, type: http://x.x.x.x/loader_upg.htm.
  • Where x.x.x.x represents your GSS116E’s IP address.  Example: http://192.168.0.239/loader_upg.htm
• Update the boot loader to V1.0.0.5.  
  • GSS116E reboots automatically when done.  

2.Upgrade to the newest V1.6.1.4 firmware.  

• Use the ProSAFE Plus Utility to update the switch to version V1.6.1.4 
•  If you cannot use the ProSAFE Plus Utility, open a web browser and update the firmware to V1.6.1.4. The upgrade from firmware V1.0.0.2 fails the first time. Using the same browser, upgrade the firmware V1.6.1.4 again. 

If your GSS116E firmware version is V1.0.0.5 or above:

1. Use a web browser to log in to your GSS116E.  
2. If a loader upgrade page is prompted, you must upgrade loader to V1.0.0.5. When the loader V1.0.0.5 is successfully loaded (onto the switch), your GSS116E will automatically reboot.  
3. Use either the Plus Utility or a web browser to upgrade the firmware to V1.6.1.4.
