New Features / Enhancements:
- PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) protocol support for WAC510 in router mode.
- SSID Scheduling: Option to configure the schedule to automatically turn the SSID ON or OFF. User can choose from presets or can have a complete customized schedule for SSIDs.
- Supports a maximum data rate (speed) of 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz radio.
- Internet Speed Check: Ability to check the speed of internet connection through SPEEDTEST by Ookla.
- Option to configure UI session time out.
- Enhancements to Ping Test feature that improves stability. Added options for ping timeout and ping interval. Ability to use URLs as well as IP addresses.
- Improved high channel utilization notifications. Notifications are now generated only if channel utilization remains continuously high for at least 10 minutes instead of every temporary spike.
Issues Fixed:
- Fixed device information while roaming when using the NETGEAR Insight app.
- Fixed security vulnerabilities with “lighttpd” utility.
- Fixed issues with NTP server configuration issues and AP time sync issues with NTP server
Known Issues:
- If Radio Scheduling is configured there is a time mismatch after updating to the latest firmware. Need to reconfigure the scheduling to set the time correctly.
- While using the Facebook Wi-Fi feature an auto pop up issue with some iOS devices with old android versions.
- Need to clear the web browser cache to get the latest web management interface changes.
Updating the Firmware
Standalone mode:
- Before using a new AP, make sure that you are using the latest firmware. To download firmware, visit downloadcenter.netgear.com.
- If the WAC510 AP is operating on firmware v1.2.1.6 or above, update the firmware to latest version.
- If the WAC510 AP is operating on firmware lower than v1.2.1.6, update the firmware to v1.2.1.6 first, and then update the AP to latest firmware.
- If the WAC505 AP is operating on firmware v1.5.2.3 or higher, update to the latest firmware.
Insight mode:
- Before using a new AP, make sure that you are using the latest firmware.
- Make sure that you are using the latest version of the NETGEAR Insight app.
- If the WAC505 AP is operating in Insight mode with firmware v1.5.2.3 or higher, update to the latest firmware through the NETGEAR Insight app.
- If the WAC510 AP is managed using the NETGEAR Insight app v2.x, update to the latest NETGEAR Insight 4.x app and update the AP to the latest firmware.
Standalone to Insight Mode
- Make sure that you are running the latest firmware. In the local browser interface, go to Configuration -> System -> Basic -> Management Mode -> select “Insight” -> APPLY.
Note: Install the NETGEAR Insight app v4.x on your mobile devices to discover and manage the WAC505 and WAC510 APs.
Router mode:
- Before using a new AP, make sure that you are using the latest firmware.
- If the AP is operating in router mode with firmware v1.2.5.12 or lower, make sure to set the default management VLAN ID (1) and default VLAN ID for first DHCP server before updating to the latest firmware.

Firmware Upgrade Procedure:
Limitations:
- IE10 and lower versions are not supported.
- In the WAC510 AP, a backup configuration file that was created on a firmware lower than v1.2.0.12 will not be restored on v1.2.0.12 or above through the IE11 browser.
