New Features / Enhancements:
- Facebook WiFi HTTPs Blocking: Added a configuration option to either allow or not allow the HTTPS traffic to/from a client until it has authenticated with Facebook WiFi.
- Added a filter button in MAC ACL Available clients table. Users can now view connected clients filtered by their state.
- An alarm notification is now logged if the AP is operating in a DFS channel and a radar signal is detected that forces the AP to change the operating channel.
- Optimized the management traffic between the AP and NETGEAR Insight cloud when the AP is managed by NETGEAR Insight.
Issues Fixed:
- AP is unable to resolve hostnames for all connected clients.
- Improved web management interface responsiveness.
- Fixed Hostapd crash.
- Fixed DHCP crash.
- Fix MAC-ACL page when probing clients exceeded 128.
- Multiple fixes for Facebook WiFi.
- Various improvements on web management interface.
- Fixes for MAC ACL and WDS.
Known Issues
- Need to clear browser cache to get latest web management interface changes.
Operational Notes:
- The WAC510 and WAC505 access points are supported by a single firmware image.
- AP can be managed locally or through Insight Manager App V3.x after upgrading to this latest FW.
- After factory defaults, WW SKU AP has default country as GERMANY and NA SKU AP has default country as CANADA to comply with regulatory requirements. It is highly recommended to configure the country in which AP is operating to adhere to corresponding country’s regulations.
- Out of the box, the AP has a DHCP client running by default. The AP can learn a new IP from a DHCP server if it is already configured in the existing network. If no DHCP server is found, the AP will continue using the default IP of 192.168.0.100.
- Out of the box, the AP has a DHCP server running internally by default. It gives 5 IPs (192.168.0.2X) for wireless clients if no server is already running in the network. If a DHCP server is already configured in the network, the AP will stop its DHCP server automatically.
- AP can be accessed using “aplogin.net or aplogin.com” only in Day Zero mode from the wireless clients which help at situation where the AP’s IPaddress is not known.
- When configuring DFS channel manually AP goes for radar scan period for 1 minute or 10minutes (If channel 120, 124, 128 is selected). AP will not broadcast beacons during the radar scan period so that wireless clients will be able to connect to the SSID configured in AP.
- AP’s operating mode (Router mode or AP mode) depends on the AP mode configuration in the backed up config file after restoring it on the AP irrespective of whether AP operates in router or AP mode.
- Two modes of management are supported by the AP:
- NETGEAR Insight (Cloud Mode): the AP needs to be configured/managed by the NETGEAR Insight application. Even though the AP can be accessed through the local UI, no configuration changes are allowed. This is the default mode for a brand new AP.
- Standalone Mode: Can be locally configured/managed through GUI.
- Default SSID at Day Zero or after factory reset is NETGEARXXXXXX-SETUP (where “XXXXXX” refers to the last 3 hexadecimal characters of the AP’s MAC address).
- The password to connect to the default SSID is “sharedsecret”.
- The AP can be returned to factory default using the reset button by pressing and holding the button for ~10 secs (Power LED will change from Green to blinking Amber).
- In the following scenarios, the AP is expected to reboot automatically for the configuration to take effect:
- Firmware upgrade
- Reset factory defaults
- Restore configuration
- WDS configuration
- Country change in Day Zero and Day One configuration Wizard
Updating the Firmware
Standalone mode:
- Before using a new AP, make sure that you are using the latest firmware. To download firmware, visit downloadcenter.netgear.com.
- If the WAC510 AP is operating on firmware v1.2.1.6 or above, update the firmware to latest version.
- If the WAC510 AP is operating on firmware lower than v1.2.1.6, update the firmware to v1.2.1.6 first, and then update the AP to latest firmware.
- If the WAC505 AP is operating on firmware v1.5.2.3 or higher, update to the latest firmware.
Insight mode:
- Before using a new AP, make sure that you are using the latest firmware.
- Make sure that you are using the latest version of the NETGEAR Insight app.
- If the WAC505 AP is operating in Insight mode with firmware v1.5.2.3 or higher, update to the latest firmware through the NETGEAR Insight app.
- If the WAC510 AP is managed using the NETGEAR Insight app v2.x, update to the latest NETGEAR Insight 4.x app and update the AP to the latest firmware.
Standalone to Insight Mode
- Make sure that you are running the latest firmware. In the local browser interface, go to Configuration -> System -> Basic -> Management Mode -> select “Insight” -> APPLY.Note:Install the NETGEAR Insight app v4.x on your mobile devices to discover and manage the WAC505 and WAC510 APs.
Router mode:
- Before using a new AP, make sure that you are using the latest firmware.
- If the AP is operating in router mode with firmware v1.2.5.12 or lower, make sure to set the default management VLAN ID (1) and default VLAN ID for first DHCP server before updating to the latest firmware.
