700 Series Managed Switch Firmware 2.6.2

Managed Switch 700 Firmware 2.6.2

Enhancements Since Version 2.6.0

  1. Fixed the problem that if a port is configured to be in multiple VLAN, it might cause the SNMP client to eventually lock up and not respond to the SNMP manager. The problem may have also blocked management access from telnet.
  2. Changed the EAP session blackout time from 45 seconds to 15 seconds for IEEE 802.1x when a user fails the access authentication.

Enhancements Since Version 2.5.0

  1. Added support for management VLAN for CPU access.
  2. Improved management CPU response in stacking application.
  3. Fixed "Unrecognized command" errors when downloading configuration file to a FSM726.
  4. Added Syslog function to report link change events.
  5. Improved handling of IGMP snooping in VLAN application.
  6. Changed port flow-control default mode from enable to disable.
  7. Enhance 802.1x handling to allow user sessions to be reestablished when the switch is rebooted while there are active authenticated users.

Selecting How to Upgrade

A version of switch firmware is stored in non-volatile memory, while another version is stored in regular memory.

The "Net" option, which is used in these Release Note instructions, lets you try the new firmware in regular memory without overwriting the old one in non-volatile memory. This way it's easy to recover if you have a problem with the new firmware.

The "Net & Save" option overwrites both versions with the new firmware.

The "Last Saved" option erases the new firmware, and replaces it with the old firmware the next time the switch reboots.

Upgrading

The upgrade requires a TFTP server. Go to this Web site to download, if you don't have it:
http://support.solarwinds.net/updates/New-customerFree.cfm. Follow the instructions to install it on your server.

Download and save the firmware file on a computer that has a TFTP server. The file should be in the TFTP home/root directory.

Use either method to install the firmware:

Upgrading Using the Web Interface

  1. Select Advanced > Advanced Tools > Software Upgrade > Net for Next Boot From.
  2. Enter IP address of the computer where you saved the firmware in TFTP Server IP Address.
  3. Enter the firmware's filename in TFTP Path/Filename and click Apply.
  4. Click Tools > Save Configuration > Save.
  5. Select Tools > Device Reset > Reset to reboot.
  6. After the switch reboots, test it. If you decide to keep the new firmware:
    1. Go to Advanced > Advanced Tools > Software Upgrade.
    2. Select Net & Save in Next Boot from.
    3. Click Apply.
    4. Click Save Configuration > Save.
    5. Click Tools > Device Reset > Reset.
  7. If, instead, you decide *not* to keep the new firmware, then reboot the switch.

Upgrading Using the Console Interface

    2. Select Net & Save in Next Boot from.
    3. Press CTRL-W.
